Are Hydraulic Hoses Maintenance-free?

Most people think of hydraulic hoses as maintenance-free, even after installation. It wasn't noticed until it was completely damaged. But is that really the case? Are hydraulic hoses really that rough? As with any metal or rubber product, even within its useful life some failures will still occur. Therefore, regular maintenance is also required during use.

Efficient securing of hydraulic hoses is guaranteed not to twist or twist. Hydraulic hoses should be laid as naturally as possible, and there should be no abnormal stress at the joints. Of course, at the time of design, properly defining the length of the hose can prevent excessive sagging of the hose and avoid mechanical wear caused by friction between the hose and the metal.

How to prevent hydraulic hose from wearing out?
The damage of hydraulic hoses is mainly caused by wear, especially in relatively moving mechanisms. For example, most actuators on an excavator have relative motion. Therefore, in addition to effective fixing, if possible, the hydraulic hose can be jacketed, which can effectively slow down mechanical wear.

Another advantage of wearing a jacket is that when the hydraulic hose is exposed to dirty environments such as industrial dust and oil, the decomposition rate of the rubber will increase. This coat completely encases the hose from head to toe, fraying or corroding outer clothing first.
Of course, wearing clothes is not a must, but also regularly check the wear and tear of the hose wrap.
Jacketed hydraulic hoses protect against harmful degradation from UV rays and harsh chemicals.
Of course, the jackets that go over the hose have the downside that they hide wear and tear on the hose itself, which is terrible for you to inspect. Therefore, regular undress checks are also important. If internal hoses are found to be visibly cracked, leaking, or worn, they should be replaced immediately.
For example, if you have a piece of equipment that is three to four years old and has a total of 12 hoses on it, and 3 of them fail prematurely, it is an indication that the other hoses are unlikely to last much longer. Maybe it's because of the bad environment!
Or as the old saying goes, like a hydraulic pump, proper hose repair should be preventive, not reactive.
