The application of Teflon hose in industry

Teflon hoses are suitable for applications in many harsh environments. With the exception of a few very strong redox agents, Teflon is resistant to almost all chemicals and retains its effective performance as a hose over a temperature range of approximately -73°C to 260°C. Its non-stick properties, low coefficient of friction and moisture resistance are ideal in many applications. It is resistant to flexing and vibration, and its properties do not change over time.

Teflon hose generally consists of a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) inner tube or a spiral lining and outer jacket. Both ends of the hose are usually equipped with stainless steel metal quick couplings. The inner diameter is generally 5mm-200mm. This hose has a wide variety of uses in the factory. For example, in a steel mill in the United States, Teflon hoses are used as hydraulic hoses, high-pressure water pipes and lubricating oil pipes in flat casting operations. There are nearly 300 hydraulic cylinders on the flat casting line, each with two Teflon hoses. These hoses deliver phosphate ester hydraulic fluid at 93°C and 20.7 million Pascals (207 bar). In the self-lubricating system of the flat casting mold, the lubricating oil with a temperature of -29 °C to 66 °C is also pumped through a Teflon hose at a pressure of 10.35 million Pa.

In the chemical industry, a large number of Teflon hoses are used to transport strong alkaline or highly corrosive chemicals. For example, LCP Chemicals replaced copper-nickel alloy pipes with Teflon hoses five years ago. Loading chlorine gas into a tanker at 100°C triples the life of the hose and reduces the cost. In the production of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen, mercury is pumped through pipelines at 77-102°C. The carbon steel pipes used in the past are not resistant to the corrosion of caustic soda at high temperatures, and are quickly damaged, and due to thermal expansion and contraction, leakage will occur at the joints. The use of Teflon hoses with stainless steel wire braided jackets instead of carbon steel pipes increases service life and safety, and reduces maintenance costs.
